  1. Hi Paul,

We have been really impressed with your site and think you have got some great resources are in. WE are both Speech and language Therapists in England and are researching stages of voacbulary development with particular interest in socio-economically deprived areas. Your hieracrachy of categories is really useful but we aren’t sure on the age ranges for each stage e.g early elementary etc. We can’t find this info on the web and wondered if you would be able to help?

Thanks so much and we hope to hear from you soon,

    Sarah and Tamsin

  2. Hi – Thank you for your comments. For use in my own teaching, I’ve compiled lists of words for each of various language goals that SLPs typically address. The order comes from developmental data, when available, state goals and benchmarks, and often educated guesswork. So, to answer your question, many of the words come specifically from the curriculum from the state of Nevada where I worked at the time. For many language structures I drew on developmental data compiled by Roseberry-Mckibben and Hedge in their Advanced Review of Speech-Language Pathology book. Here’s the link. I’ve never seen anything specifically for categories though. I just developed that using the curriculum and my own judgment. Good Luck!
